Guide Dogs Victoria

For over 40 years Guide Dogs Victoria has been helping vision impaired Victorians regain their freedom and independence through the provision of Guide Dogs and other vital mobility services. Guide Dogs provide vision impaired people with the freedom and confidence to live life to the full and carry the responsibility of ensuring that their vision impaired handler travels safely around the community. Despite the challenges they face every day, Guide Dogs enjoy their work and the rewards of love and companionship they receive from their handler.
Applicants do not have to be totally blind to be eligible for a Guide Dog and there is no upper age limit. Over the course of its life a Guide Dog costs $25,000 but Guide Dogs Victoria provides Guide Dogs to vision impaired Victorians free of charge.
Due to the exceptionally high standards required for Guide Dog work, Guide Dogs Victoria has a number of dogs that are unsuitable for intensive Guide Dog training. These reclassified dogs make perfect companions for individuals and families.
